The role of social protection for food and nutrition security

Social protection measures support rural households in crisis situations. They improve food and nutrition security and enable households to better deal with risks and invest in more profitable livelihoods. But they do a great deal more. This study focuses on rural areas and inhabitants. Its objective is to encourage better use of social protection’s potential for food and nutrition security, and to integrate appropriate social protection measures into rural development concepts to improve the lives of the rural poor.
