This guidelines has been developed to promote the use of landslides, flood, earthquake, tsunami-resilient engineering design and construction practices when building houses in Sri Lanka. The goal of the manual is to develop a culture of hazard resilience among house builders through basic engineering practices. Furthermore, it attempts to inculcate among the communities to adopt additional safer building construction practices when constructing in areas identified as disaster prone. The Manual focuses on ensuring that housing environment is better prepared for potential disaster events through proper planning, siting, design and construction practices.
