This book provides information on selecting, specifying, procuring, using, and distributing timber and bamboo as construction materials for small and medium-sized buildings in humanitarian operations. It is aimed at program managers, logisticians, engineers and others working in humanitarian programs involving construction. Basic construction advice is provided which is intended to help program staff when monitoring projects, but this is not a substitute for advice from technical professionals. The book should not be used as a construction manual. This book is intended to complement international standards, such as Sphere; national building regulations; and organisations' own procurement policies.
