This feasibility report assesses the suitability of compressed stabilised earth blocks (CSEB) and other earth-based building technologies in the regions of north and east Sri Lanka. The aims of this study were to assess if and how earth-based construction methods could be implemented in the north and the east, on the basis of technical, social, socio-economic and ecological parameters in the areas of Batticaloa, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. Principally, the rationale for the use of earth-based building materials is that, with the maximum use of affordable, locally available materials, it supports the establishment of local value-added supply chains and invests significantly in local livelihoods.
