A burning issue: Fire in humanitarian shelter and settlements

“Uncontrolled fire – burning camps and settlements – leads to significant devastation to residents, the environment, budgets and programming. There is currently a gap in the Shelter & Settlements sector, and humanitarian assistance more widely, in policy and guidance to reduce fire risk and promote fire safety to reduce the potential for additional harm to crisis-affected populations from uncontrolled fire. With support from FCDO and from USAID-BHA, through the GSC 2020-2022 grant, Kindling is leading an effort with the GSC Construction Standards WG to review the current and changing state of fire safety in humanitarian shelter and settlements. Through this presentation, interim findings from this study will be shared, key questions will be raised, and input will be sought from the audience to inform the project and future fire safety developments.”
