Self-Recovery: Case studies and good practice

This Collection is part of the 'Self-Recovery Channel', where after disasters and conflicts, affected families will inevitably rebuild their homes themselves, but there is little support from the international community to encourage good safe building practice. This Collection argues the cases for the humanitarian community to link post-disaster and post-conflict shelter programming with the more developmental approach of communicating building safety to a much wider audience than just the most vulnerable beneficiaries.
Current guidance comes from leading global organizations: CARE, Centre for Education and Research in Humanitarian Action, European Commission, Global Shelter Cluster, International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC), Overseas Development Institute (ODI), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
